Our Livestock Guardians
We have learned you can’t have a farm without a guardian. To run a farm without protection means waking up to the aftermath of coyote, raccoon, oppossum and stray dog raids. We did that so many times and it’s so disheartening! Livestock Guardian dogs are natural protectors of livestock. If you properly raise one, they will bond with the flock and patrol at night to protect their flock and rest with one eye open during the day. Our LGD’s are absolutely priceless to this farm.

Sampson was our first LGD. He is guardian to Piper, the bucks, ram, and Charlotte the pig. Sampson is very good natured and loveable and people friendly. But, don’t mess with his livestock! We got Sampson summer of 2007 just before we moved to the farm.

Goliath is our second LGD. We bought him as a puppy spring 2008. He is an LGD in training. He needs to learn to keep his mouth off our ducks! He was not very well people socialized and is timid around people, but he will grow out of that soon enough. He is already becoming very well bonded to his livestock which is all our does, ewes, kids and poultry.
