Moses

Moses is our only sheep. You might say he’s the BLACK SHEEP in the herd. He lives in the pen with Chickory and Charlotte, so they are quite the odd threesome.

We love Moses because he is ALWAYS smiling. Happy or not- he ALWAYS smiles. So, if you’re ever in a rotten mood- just go out and put your face nose to nose at the fence with Moses. He’s sure to cheer anyone up.

Isn’t he cute?

Moses is what is called a Southdown Babydoll sheep. He’s a miniature variety of sheep. Most Southdowns are white, but we don’t like the “normal” animals- so we found a black one. He’s wethered and is just a pet. We bought him as a companion for Chickory and we plan to card and spin his wool. Hannah is going to knit his wool into something for the 4H fair.

Here is Moses getting sheared the first time.

Hannah decided to try her hand at shearing the easiest parts.

He’s starting to look naked!

Moses didn’t like this part. I don’t blame him!

But, he was still smiling!

It didn’t quite turn out like we planned because the clippers were not working well and because we didn’t really know exactly what we were doing! But, at least he’s cooler. We saved the wool and we’ll see what we can do with it. Maybe next time around he won’t look like he had a fight with a pair of clippers and lost. Ha!!
